I came across a lecture by Professor Barbara Tversky on the connection between our spatial perception and thinking. I was amazed to discover how much our thinking is based on spatial perception. Of course, I immediately rushed ("an abstraction that is a spatial expression" - not really - everything is digital nowadays) to purchase her book- "Mind in Motion." Prof. Barbara Tversky demonstrates in her research how our spatial perception is fundamentally the basis for our abstract thinking. The connection between how our brain operates as a network of neurons, the external world, and our perceptions organizes how we think based on spatial thinking. In my conversation with Professor Tversky, I wanted to understand in what way spatial perception is the foundation of our thinking, how this is manifested, and whether it can be used practically in aspects of behavioral change or learning. A fascinating, albeit perhaps too short, conversation on the connection between space, thinking, language, abstraction, and order.
